Chairman, Department of Urology
Noel A. Armenakas, M.D.
Program Director
The Urology residency training program consists of an accredited four-year program with one resident in each year. Prior to entry into the program, two years of postgraduate training in general surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital is required. The Urology residency at Lenox Hill Hospital participates in the matching program under the auspices of the American Urological Association.
Strong consideration is afforded interested students who perform a Urology clinical clerkship at Lenox Hill Hospital. The Urology residency offers a well rounded experience in clinical urology emphasizing its scientific basis. There are presently 27 board-certified attending urologists on staff and an active inpatient service.
The program is comprised of three years of clinical training at Lenox Hill Hospital and three-month extramural rotations in research, endourology, oncology and pediatric urology at other institutions. Formal didactic sessions are held on a daily basis and include basic sciences, uroradiology, journal club, uropathology, and clinical conferences. The urology residents and a rotating surgical resident are responsible for the care of all patients on the service, under the supervision of the chief resident and attending urologists. The chief resident participates in all major operative procedures and delegates responsibility for daily activities.
