New York City resident, Christine Sheppard, RN, Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, has graduated from the Johnson & Johnson - Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives, an intensive three-week management education program held at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, University of Pennsylvania.
Ms. Sheppard was one of 36 participants selected from the United States, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom to participate in the program, which provides senior nurse executives with business and management knowledge that is crucial to their leadership at a time of significant challenges for both the nursing profession and the future of health care.
"It was an honor to have been selected for this prestigious program. Lenox Hill Hospital is, by strategic design, one of only two independent hospitals in New York City. We are proud of our ability to offer our patients the best of both worlds - outstanding tertiary patient care in a community hospital atmosphere," Sheppard said. "It was a privilege to have the opportunity to work with the outstanding faculty at Wharton and nurse executives from around the world to gain new perspectives and learn new strategies to help ensure that Lenox Hill Hospital maintains its prestigious position in this competitive and challenging healthcare environment."
The Johnson & Johnson - Wharton Fellows Program has been enhancing the leadership capabilities of nurses for 20 years, recognizing the important role nurse executives have in shaping strategic planning within their own health care institutions as well as health policy regionally, nationally and globally.
