On Saturday, December 1st, the annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk will be held for the first time in Riverside Park in Manhattan.. This 5K timed race (with an optional one mile walk) is the Arthritis Foundation’s signature event where thousands of people come together in more than 200 cities to run, walk and raise money to help fight arthritis. Jose Rodriguez, MD, an orthopedist at Lenox Hill specializing in traumatic and developmental conditions of the hip and knee, has been selected to serve as this year’s medical honoree.
Lenox Hill Hospital is sponsoring the event and is inviting participants to join them. It’s easy to register on-line at www.nycjbr.kintera.org/NSLIJLHH; the entry fee is $30.
This annual nationwide event kicks off during the holiday season, raising both awareness for America’s leading cause of disability and the necessary funds for research, health education and government advocacy to improve the lives of people with arthritis. To celebrate the holiday season, participants tie jingle bells to their shoelaces, don festive holiday costumes and join friends and neighbors in support of the Arthritis Foundation’s mission to prevent, control and cure arthritis and its related diseases.
This fun family event features medals for top finishers in several age categories, team and fundraising awards, kids’ activities, “The Dog Pen” – an expo where pet owners can get information about arthritis and pets, entertainment and post-race refreshments. To get involved or learn more, visit www.nycjbr.kintera.org, or call 212-984-8724.
