Lenox Hill Hospital's 2006 Autumn Ball, the premier annual fundraising event of one of New York City's finest hospitals and teaching facilities, will "Strike Up The Band" on Monday, November 13 to honor Maestro James Levine, the acclaimed Metropolitan Opera and Boston Symphony Orchestra music director and conductor, and three of the hospital's distinguished physicians.
The special guest of the evening will be Beverly Sills, opera star and former Chairman of the Board at Lincoln Center and at the Metropolitan Opera.
The Autumn Ball will be held at The Waldorf-Astoria Grand Ballroom, commencing with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the evening's program, dinner and dancing. The Ball attracts upwards of 1,300 guests and traditionally raises more than $2 million dollars for Lenox Hill Hospital.
The hospital's Medal of Distinction will be awarded to Maestro Levine, whose recent shoulder surgery was performed at Lenox Hill Hospital by Dr. Francis Mendoza.
In a statement Mr. Levine, who will attend the benefit, said, "I am honored to receive the Medal of Distinction from Lenox Hill Hospital, where I was cared for by a superb team."
Also being honored at the Autumn Ball are Lenox Hill physicians Dr. Ira R. Hoffman, Acting Chairman, Department of Medicine; Dr. Chitranjan S. Ranawat, Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Dr. Valavanur Subramanian, Chairman, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
The Autumn Ball Lenox Hill Hospital's Autumn Ball is an esteemed social event of the season, celebrating the hospital's doctors, nurses, staff and benefactors. In recent years, the Ball has raised more than $2 million annually for the hospital's medical services and community programs. Chairs for the "Strike Up The Band"-themed ball are Jean and Ralph Baruch, Marlene Hess and James Zirin.
Individual ticket prices for the Autumn Ball are $3,500, $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000. For tables of 10, the tickets are $50,000, $35,000, $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000.
