R. Ernest Sosa, MD, was named Chairman of Urology at Lenox Hill Hospital on July 27, 2010.
Dr. Sosa, who was Acting Chairman of the Department since 2009, came to Lenox Hill Hospital as Attending Urologist in 2002 from New York Hospital where he was Clinical Associate Professor of Urology and Vice-chairman of the Department of Urology. He received his medical degree from Cornell University and completed his internship in General Surgery, residency in Urology, and fellowship in Renal Physiology at the New York Hospital.
Dr. Sosa was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor medical society, in 1977. In 1987 he was the recipient of the American Urological Association’s (AUA) Gold Cystoscope Award, an honor presented annually to urologists demonstrating outstanding contributions to the profession within 10 years of completing their residency training.
He has served as Director of the Laparoscopy Course for the AUA’s Office of Education since 1999 and is on the faculty of the AUA, teaching urologists to employ ultrasound in their practices. He is currently the President-elect of New York Section, AUA. Dr. Sosa, whose specialties include endourology and minimally invasive surgery for stone disease and renal and adrenal diseases, is a member of numerous professional societies such the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Society of University Urologists.
