Open House for the Anne & Isidore Falk Center for Emergency Care at Lenox Hill Hospital

January 2, 2007

Lenox Hill Hospital will hold an open house to celebrate its newly expanded Emergency Department on Thursday, January 18th from 2:00-6:30pm at 111 East 76th Street between Park and Lexington avenues.

The Open House will include tours of the Emergency Department and a Wellness Fair with free blood pressure, stroke, cholesterol, diabetes and eye screenings, ambulance tours, defibrillator demonstrations and refreshments.

More than 40,000 patients come to the Lenox Hill Hospital Emergency Department each year in need of urgent medical attention. An additional 24,000 patients receive treatment through the Lenox Hill Hospital ambulance service. To accommodate the increased need for care, the size of the Emergency Department has been increased to 15,750 square feet - double its previous size.

The new Department features:

  • 100% more space, for maximum privacy, comfort and efficiency
  • larger waiting area for families and loved ones
  • new specialty treatment rooms for Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology
  • two separate entrances, one for walk-in patients and another for those arriving by ambulance, with separate triage at each entrance to speed access to care
  • State-of-the-art cardiac monitors
  • Bedside laboratory testing
  • a new digital radiography suite
  • bedside registration, to speed access to care and enhance patient privacy

Construction, which began in March 2004, was carried out in phases, to prevent interruption of patient care.

The expansion project is supported by the $20 million Campaign for Enhanced Emergency Care. Announced in the spring of 2004, $17.6 million has been raised to date for construction, equipment, technology and new ambulances. The campaign continues through 2007.

Lenox Hill Hospital is a recognized designated Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health.
