Lenox Hill Hospital has appointed over 20 physicians from the former St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center, representing a broad range of clinical specialties and providing a site for these physicians to care for their patients.
In April, St. Vincent’s abruptly closed its flagship hospital, stranding hundreds of physicians without a place to admit their patients. Although the current economic times are challenging to hospitals across the region, Lenox Hill Hospital proactively sought to enhance its existing clinical programs and took major steps to recruit this talented pool of physicians.
Among the doctors joining the Lenox Hill Hospital staff are former Chairman of Urology, Dr. Michael Grasso, and former Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dr. Bruce Gingold. Dr. Gingold has been a specialist in the practice of colon and rectal surgery for over 30 years and Dr. Grasso is a major innovator in the minimally invasive specialty of Endo-Urology.
“My goal is to further enhance the existing, high-performing colorectal service at Lenox Hill and to collaborate with the outstanding staff to create a center of excellence. The Medical Staff Leadership and the Administration have helped incredibly to make this transition as smooth as possible. It has been a remarkably symbiotic relationship,” said Dr. Gingold. “The people who have joined Lenox Hill are some of the top people from St. Vincent’s,” he added.
Lenox Hill Hospital, a 652-bed, acute care hospital located on Manhattan's Upper East Side, has earned a national reputation for outstanding patient care and innovative medical and surgical treatments. The Hospital is particularly well known for excellence in internal medicine, heart and vascular medicine, orthopaedics, sports medicine, otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, and maternal/child health.
"The hallmark of a great hospital is its Medical Staff and recruiting these fine physicians to Lenox Hill Hospital helps us meet our goal of providing quality healthcare to our community," said Philip Rosenthal, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Lenox Hill Hospital.
