Thank you for your interest in the Lenox Hill Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. As interim Chairman of the Department of Medicine, I am delighted to welcome you to our hospital. Lenox Hill has a long and storied history that dates to its original founding in 1857 as the German Dispensary. Physician training programs have been in place since the hospital's inception. There is a long proud lineage of physicians throughout the metropolitan area and country that have received their training here.
We in the Department of Medicine are dedicated to excellence in patient care and in resident education. A large full time faculty is complemented by a committed group of voluntary attendings. A robust educational program is in place which melds patient-centered bed side teaching with a comprehensive didactic schedule. The patient base is broad and diverse, with more than 50% of patients coming from outside Manhattan. Residency-based research, a key part of our program, produced 92 presentations at national and local meetings this past year. Mentorship and guidance are core values for us. Our ultimate goal is to instill each resident with the clinical skills, intellectual rigor and professional qualities that are necessary for a successful career as an internist and subspecialist.
Lenox Hill also serves as the primary Manhattan site of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, one of the largest and most innovative health care systems in the country. The system is at the forefront of changes in health care delivery and educational reform through its Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. The North Shore-LIJ Center for Learning and Innovation , is a nationally recognized leader in workforce development and offers unique opportunities for residents to develop administrative and leadership skills.
This is an exciting time to be at Lenox Hill. We blend a proud past with a vision for the future. The success of the educational programs and our trainees is integral part of our vision. Come join us.
