The Division of General Internal Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital has a longstanding tradition of excellence in patient care and education. Our clinical activities are largely focused on delivering excellent, evidence-based care both in and out of the hospital setting and serving as clinical role models and educators for students and housestaff. In addition, our staff is dedicated to the continuous evaluation and quality improvement of our practice.

Hospital Medicine

At Lenox Hill Hospital, the Section of Hospital Medicine cares for more than a quarter of all medical admissions. The hospitalists are part of our core-teaching faculty and play a major role in resident education. They also work to improve quality of care by carefully adhering to evidence-based guidelines and practicing closely with our nurses, case managers, social workers, and other important ancillary staff. They are present on many hospital committees and work directly with all departments at the institution.

Outside of the Hospital: Primary and Ambulatory Care

A significant part of medical care in the field of internal medicine is delivered in the outpatient setting. The office practice experience provides a critical educational venue for learning how to evaluate and manage a variety of acute and chronic medical problems. Preventive medicine, patient education and health maintenance is routinely incorporated into daily practice.

The faculty of the division of general internal medicine plays a crucial role in teaching and evaluating the outpatient practice of our housestaff. Our ambulists also provide didactic session during the ambulatory medicine months as well as lectures on ambulatory patient care throughout the year.
