Follow Up Program

Many NICU "graduates" receive continuing care from a multidisciplinary health team through the Neonatal Follow-up Program. The team monitors infants through their first few years of life to ensure that their medical, developmental and psychosocial needs are being met.

Who is seen in the follow up program?

  • All infants discharged from the Lenox Hill NICU <35 weeks gestation
  • Infants at risk for developmental delays
  • Infants with Genetic Disorders
  • Infants with other medical Diagnoses at the discretion of the neonatal team

At each developmental visit, individualized home programs are provided. These are utilized to suggest toys, games, activities, feeding techniques and exercises. Referrals to necessary specialty services or Early Intervention will also be provided as needed.

Each visit will focus on your baby's development in the following areas:

  • Neuromotor Function
  • Muscle Strength or Weakness
  • Growth and Nutrition
  • Communication
  • Social Interaction
  • Sensory Processing
  • Developmental Milestones
