Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Phone: 212-434-2136

Chairman: Marty Ellington, Jr, MD, MPH

Meet the staff

The Department of Pediatrics includes a 28 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that is staffed by a team of specially trained physicians and nurses providing intensive, round-the-clock monitoring and treatment of low birth weight or sick newborns. In addition, our staff includes the full range of pediatric subspecialists and support personnel, including medical specialists, surgeons, developmental specialists, social workers, nutritionists, occupational therapists and lactation consultants, who work together to provide optimal care.

About 10 to 15% of newborns require some form of specialty care. Lenox Hill Hospital has one of the premiere Level 3 Neonatal care facilities, allowing our physicians to provide expert care in even the most complex cases.

The Department of Pediatrics is able to provide this outstanding level of care not only because of its state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit, but also because of its team of neonatal specialists. The NICU is staffed by highly trained physicians and nurses who have specialty training in care for these newborns. The NICU has a team of Neonatologists on call 24/7 who work in conjunction with Pediatric Specialists to ensure your child receives the best possible care.
