Special Hematology

Special Hematology is a special function laboratory, accredited by the College of American Pathologists, offering a comprehensive test menu of standard and specialized hematology and coagulation procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders. The laboratory functions in conjunction with the hospital’s main clinical laboratory as well as the clinical sections of Hematology and Medical Oncology. As such, its highly qualified medical technologists work closely with the hematologists and the fellowship program’s residents, providing quality diagnostic testing and accommodating particular needs in the management of their patients.

The Laboratory is operates Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and provides testing on a routine and STAT basis to both in-patient and out-patient populations. Out-patients are scheduled for specialized testing and are required to provide a written physician order for all tests requested.

• Hemostasis Screen
• Abnormal PT Evaluation
• Abnormal APTT Evaluation
• Factor Assays/Inhibitors
• Lupus Anticoagulant Assays
• Platelet Aggregation Studies
• Bleeding Time
• G-6-PD Screen
• Leukocyte Alkaline Phosphatase
• Blood and Serum Viscosities

Blood specimens are collected and tested on site, allowing for optimal results reported in a timely manner. The technologists are readily available to assist physicians in test ordering and result interpretation. We pride ourselves in providing excellent service.
