The Department of Medicine has a long history of serving the immediate community, as well as patients from the greater metropolitan region. Through our Division of General Internal Medicine and Medical Subspecialties, the mission of the department is to provide excellence in patient care and medical education.
The Department of Medicine is comprised of over 600 attending physicians and is responsible for 350 medical beds. Our ambulatory care centers serve over 80,000 patients from the around the region, representing a socio-economically and ethnically diverse patient population. Lenox Hill Hospital is a major teaching affiliate of the New York University School of Medicine and has a student training agreement with SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Many faculty hold academic appointments at both institutions.
In addition to the Internal Medicine program, the Department also sponsors six fellowship programs. These programs are Cardiovascular Disease, Gastroenterology, Hematology and Medical Oncology, Interventional Cardiology, Nephrology and Pulmonary Medicine.
